Filming "Intruder in the Dust"

$0.00

The William Faulkner book was made into a movie filmed in 1949 here in Lafayette County with lots of locals used as “extras” in the film. At the start of the movie, Lucas Beauchamp (played by Juano Hernandez) is arrested and taken to the old Lafayette County jail by Sheriff Hampton (Will Geer). See this clip HERE.

In a later scene, Lucas’ lawyer, John Stevens (David Brian), can be seen walking to his office which was filmed on the stairs that lead up to today’s Rooster’s Bar. See this clip HERE. Hear Tommy Etheridge talk about William Faulkner at the premier HERE in Oxford at the Lyric theater.

For continuity buffs, notice in the picture taken of filming the sheriff arriving at the jail with Lucus Beauchamp that the rear tire on the sheriff’s car is fully inflated, when in the previous scene of the car limping through the square, the rear tire is almost flat.
