The operating cost was split between the University and the City of Oxford. With the completion of Oxford High School in 1963, University High School was slowly phased out. Graduated classes still hold reunions in Oxford.
The school was organized in 1929 and remained in operation for more than 30 years serving more than 2,700 students. It was the home of a teacher training program at the University of Mississippi.
